What do you do when your marriage is so unhappy that you begin to fantasize about your husband's funeral? That's how bad it got for Alisa Bowman.... So she launched a last-ditch effort to save her marriage. Project Happily Ever After is her fearlessly honest and humorous account of how she went from being a "divorce daydreamer" to renewing her wedding vows - and all of the steps in between.
From bikini waxes to erotica, romance instruction manuals to second honeymoons, the silent treatment to power struggles, she goes where many marriage-improvement gurus have feared to tread. Equal parts funny, poignant, and most importantly, useful, Bowman's story will give other miserably-married folks courage and hope. And in addition to telling her own story, she packs straightforward prescriptive guidance, including a "10-Step Marital Improvement Guide". Listeners will laugh. They'll cry. And they can start on the road toward their own happy ending!

Project: Happily Ever After is a keeper!! I am always on the look out for relationship/marriage books and had been following Alisa's blog/FB posts for some time. I *finally* ordered my copy of Happily Ever After and I have to say I was smitten from the beginning. It's sort of a memoir/autobiography of meeting, marrying & finding a way to stay married to her husband and sort of a self help/relationship primer. Both formats work wonderfully. Alisa's tale of marriage issues and how she goes about solving them is helpful, humorous, sad & uplifting & very very real. Project: Happily Ever After is one of those books I couldn't put down and I didn't want to end and it offers helpful and insightful advice along the way. I especially enjoyed the last several chapters which are devoted to offering marriage tips & help. So often we get mired down by our issues with our spouses, this book gives you a bit of a road map to follow to get you back on track. My husband is reading it now & I'm definitely sending my daughter a copy.Product details

Project Happily Ever After Saving Your Marriage When the Fairytale Falters (Audible Audio Edition) Alisa Bowman Jessica Almasy Audible Studios Books Reviews
From the moment I started reading Alisa Bowman's book, I felt captivated. Sometimes, rather than reading yet another marriage manual, it can be more helpful just to hear the inside scoop on someone else's marriage. And, since the kind of marriage issues I relate to don't fall in the categories of, say, infidelity, abuse, and so forth, I found this book and her story particularly helpful. There are issues, but in many ways they are mostly issues of mindset and communication. I think any marriage can benefit from improving on these two points - I know my own certainly can.
I loved Alisa's friendly tone. I felt like I was having an intimate chat with a friend as I read the book, and I couldn't wait to get to the next page. My most valuable take-away from the book was that everyone has issues. No marriage is perfect. It sounds like a cliche, and it's certainly something I knew in theory, of course, but it took reading about Alisa's journey - all the details, large and small - for me to really understand this fact and apply it, with positive results, to my attitude towards my own marriage. Thank you for putting yourself out there and writing this book, Alisa Bowman!
I really enjoyed reading this book and will probably read it over again. The story was great and I really related to it in LOTS of ways! She tells you how to take care of your marriage and tells you how things can go wrong. All of it is so very true with the way women and men related. When I first started reading the book I thought it was going to be boring. But as I read on it started grabbing my attention and I couldn't put it down!! It definitely won't disappoint you. I also like the back of the book where she gives questions to talk over with your husband. Great book!
I could not identify with this author's situation at all. It seemed to me upon reading the first few chapters that she had unrealistic expectations of a marriage and a warped understanding of what real love is, not romantic love but love. Perhaps that's the whole premise of the book and she was going to address managing your own expectations of another person but unfortunately I couldn't get past halfway. The book for me provided an example of someone from my generation of recently married folks who has been culturally conditioned to expect a perfect soulmate and not taught the true nature of real love. Personally, I felt this book may apply well to someone who has trivial little problems in their marriage that they've made into bigger ones with their own bad thinking habits. Maybe for someone who needs advice on how to chill out and be happy with yourself before you think your marriage needs the work when it's really you. I was looking for a marriage saving book that addressed actual problems and an author I could identify with and this wasn't it, but I bought it based on positive reviews so I guess it helps some people. I would venture to say that if you are just starting to think your marriage is getting difficult, this book may help you. Otherwise, go read The Power of Now. Everyone would be a better person as a partner and as a human after reading that one. If you can get your partner to read it with you and they take to it, heaven on earth.
The author does an excellent job of describing how a marriage can go to hell and how hard it can be to bring it back to where it provides two people in love with a place to be safe and to be taken care of. But not without lots of changes and lots of work. The author gives you the steps she went through to breathe new life into her marriage and does not leave out graphic details needed to accomplish this. Her honesty and candor make this book that can save your marriage because she saved hers and shows you how.
